Background of the Osaka Meetings

How the Meetings Came to Be Held in Osaka

At the Fourth Ministerial Meeting in Bangkok, Thailand in 1992, all participating economies agreed to hold the Seventh APEC Ministerial Meeting in Japan. It was declared at the APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting in Bogor, Indonesia last November that an APEC Economic Leadrs' Meeting would be held in Osaka.

The Official Desision to Held the Osaka Meetings

At a Cabinet meeting on December 22, 1994, it was decided that "the APEC Ministerial Meeting and Economic Leaders' Meeting will be held in the city of Osaka from November 16-19, 1995."

Nishinomaru Garden in Osaka City is currently being prepared to ensure that the facilities there are suitable for receiving the top leaders participating in these APEC meetings.
